Transneft Siberia Completes 2018 Plan for Diagnostics of Oil Trunk Pipelines and PS Facilities

Date of publication: 05 February 2019 Print

In 2018, Transneft Siberia carried out in-line inspection of oil trunk pipelines (OTP) at 84 sections with a total length of 4,700 km. The annual diagnostics plan was completed in full.

In order to monitor the technical condition of oil pipelines at the locations where they cross water bodies, 249 underwater crossings of oil trunk pipelines (OTPUWCs) with the total length of 686.9 km were inspected. The testing of the pipes’ insides was carried out by using diagnostic devices of various designs (ultrasonic, magnetic and combined inspection tools). According to the inspection’s results, 249 conclusions were issued on compliance of the OTPUWCs’ condition with the requirements of technical rules and regulations as well as safe operation periods.

Based on the results of the diagnostics, a repair plan for oil pipelines was formed. In accordance with the plan, in 2018, 57 defects were cut out and 884 defects were removed by installing repair structures on the pipeline, which was performed by contract entities and brigades of emergency line maintenance divisions (ELMD) of Transneft Siberia’s units. In 2019, Transneft Siberia plans to conduct evaluation of technical condition of 20 pipeline sections with a length of 1,652.2 km and in-line inspection of 125 sections with the total length of 7,100 km. The Company also plans to inspect 234 underwater crossings with the length of 696 km.

In addition, Transneft Siberia has summed up the results of diagnostics of oil pumping stations’ facilities in 2018. 34 vertical steel tanks (VST) were inspected as well. The tanks were examined by non-destructive testing methods using ultrasonic, magnetic and acoustic emission examination devices. According to the results of the diagnostics, 20 tanks’ safe operation period was extended, the rest are subject to overhaul.

In 2019, 44 tanks will be inspected, including full diagnostics of 16 tanks and partial diagnostics of 28 tanks. The inspection of tanks is carried out within the time and to the extent provided for by a Comprehensive Programme for Diagnostics of Transneft’s Oil Trunk Pipelines’ Facilities and PSs in order to ensure emergency-free operation and environmental safety.

Annual implementation of timely diagnostics and quality maintenance of Transneft Siberia’s oil trunk pipelines system improve the level of operational facilities’ reliability.
